Released in 1991 from American singer-songwriter Marc Cohn's self titled album, 'Walking in Memphis' reached number 11 on the Australian Aria Charts
and number 13 on the American Billboard charts.
Cohn won a Grammy award for Best New Artist the following year.
The song has been covered by several artists including Cher,
American Country band Lonestar, & American singer-songwriter Skott Freedman.
But it's the original I love,
and still hear consistently on Melbourne radio today.
This is a fantastic live version circa 91'/92'.
Just Marc and his piano - brilliant.

I have wonderful memories of a trip my late husband and I took to Memphis ten years ago or so. That song always reminds me of being there with him.
ReplyDeleteGlad it brings back some good memories Dana. Funny how music or a song can transport you to a certain place in time.
ReplyDeleteBe great to one day visit Memphis and stroll down Beale Street.x
Love that song. Followed him up to the gates of Graceland and I watched him walk right through....now security, they did not see him, they just hovered round his tomb, and there's a pretty little thing, waiting for the King, down in the Jungle Room..! love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great tune isn't it? My fave line - "Ma'am I am tonight!"
ReplyDeleteLove singing this song VERY loud in the car when nobody is around. Great song.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! It is definitely in my top 5 songs list for belting out in the car.
