Cheers & Happy Holiday Break 2013!

Where did 2013 go?

Many thanks to any and all for dropping into Hung Up On Retro this year, and a big
thanks to my kind blogging friends, new and old, that have dropped me a line or comment.

It's time to crack open the bottle and enjoy the festive season.
I'll probably be loitering around on Instagram and Facebook over
the Summer Holidays, so I will keep in touch with a few of you there.

Cheers and have a Holly Jolly Christmas!

Stay Freaky.

Guest Post - My Sister and James Spader

I'm was excited to see an email in my Inbox with the title 'Guest Spot'
from my beautiful, older and wiser sister Jenny.
She has been having a 'moment' with James Spader for the last few months, and has put it
into words for me to share with you. Hopefully, by penning this post, she'll be able to
move on from James, and I won't have to hear about it every phone call.

It's been ages since I had a guest post, so without further ado, I'll pass it over to Jen!

MY JAMES SPADER RETRO ROMANCE

Ever since James Spader returned to our small screens this year in The Blacklist, I have been having myself a little retro romance. The romance is completely one sided and involves me re-watching his movies from the 80’s and 90’s and falling in love with him all over again. Who can forget his nasty portrayal of Steff in Pretty in Pink?  I also loved his subdued, disturbed portrait of Graham in Sex, Lies and Videotape. However my favourite would have to be White Palace. White Palace is a romantic drama released in 1990 starring James Spader and Susan Sarandon. The film also stars Kathy Bates and Jason Alexander in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a 27 year old widower who begins an affair with a 40 something waitress. The script was written by Glenn Savan and he also wrote the book.  If you are after a romantic read, or a nostalgic night in, I would definitely recommend this book or film to rekindle your own retro romance

Freaky Friday - Creepy Christmas & more!

Bit of Creepy Christmas Freak for Friday 13th!

As promised throughout the year, I have put together abit of a 2014 Freaky Friday Calendar.
Some of my favourite Freaky Fridays from the past year are featured, and a few old favourites too (The Man In Grey!!).

It's not pretty, shiny or well put together, and I won't give up my day job for a career in Graphic Design, but it's free for you and perfectly suitable for the back of the toilet door or a dark (very dark) corner in your home.

I'm still putting the finishing touches on a few months, so if there is a favourite Freaky Friday friend from the past that you would like on your calendar, please let me know and consider it done.
If you would like to peruse the back editions of Freaky Friday to refresh your memory, please click here !

Please email me your address to hunguponretro@gmail.com if you would like a calendar,
and I'll get one off to you for the New Year!! I'm happy to post to anywhere.

Happy Friday!!

Freaky Friday - Straight Talkers

 Er, alrighty then...

Take your cheating outta town - preferably over state borders.

Every now and then we get the chance to see the back of one of these albums.
Ricky's makes the wait worthwhile. Look at that curvature!

Back atcha buddy, right back atcha.

So we've heard Bobbi.

Dude, she's already made the bed and taken off. It's over.

Interesting album title.
Check out that Skullet! I'd shine the top and brush the back for him.

Happy Friday!

Top 5 Retro Tunes for Singing in the Car

Image - Pay No Mind

There is nothing better than one of your favourite tunes coming on in the car when you are on your own. Not just a song you like, or tap along with, I'm talking your favourite songs for singing along to.

These are the kind of songs you unleash to and the car becomes your very own Karaoke Carriage.
Lyrics that aren't known are made up or hummed over as you sing along, and it's just you,
the tune and the open road.

These are my current Top 5.
The Top 4 have been staples for years, but number 5 varies depending on what I'm into at the time. Thankfully, all five of these songs get frequent airplay on my fave radio station.

(Links to the video clip on the song title)

Number 5: Fading like a Flower - Roxette
(this recently bumped Rain by Dragon out of the Top 5 as I am big into Roxette at present.)
Fading like a Flower starts slow then kicks in and I love the key change toward the end of the song. I do like a key change.

Number 4: Walking In Memphis - Marc Cohn
A classic. "Put on my blue suede shoes, and I boarded the plane,
touched down in the land of the Delta Blues, in the middle of the pouring rain..."

Number 3: Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson
There are quite a few lyrics in this song are make up as I roll - but I do Michael's signature
"Ooh!" like no ones business.

Number 2: Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News
Love it!! How can you hear this song and not think of Marty and Doc?

Number 1: Flame Trees - Cold Chisel
An Aussie classic, and in my opinion, a truly great song.

What are your Top 5 Retro Tunes for singing in the car?
And do you turn the song down when you pull up to a red light, or do you keep belting it out?
