Underworld - Underneath the Radar 1988

'Underneath the Radar' was released in 1988
by English band Underworld.

The title track of the album was a huge hit in Australia & still gets a decent amount of airplay on Melbourne radio today.

Interesting film clip - all done in one continuous, single take.
No camera breaks or stops.

Great song - love it.

Guest Post - Aussie Music

My brother David emailed me with some
great Australian music suggestions for the blog.

Rather than palm them off as my own ideas,
I decided to ask him to present them for you...

Rattling Sabres

Australian band Rattling Sabres wrote and recorded 'All Fired Up' in 1987.
Kerryn Tolhurst (from The Dingoes) wrote the song, with Robert Price on vocals.
The song was covered by Pat Benatar in 1988 and became a worldwide hit.
However in my opinion, the original is still the best and a favourite of mine.

The Dingoes

After reading that Kerryn Tolhurst wrote 'All Fired Up',
I started clicking on a few of The Dingoes clips and
found the original version of 'Way Out West' from 1973.

Another great song, featured in the recent movie 'Red Dog'
and it's respective soundtrack.

A new album 'Out of the Shadows' by the Kerryn Tolhurst Band
featuring Robert Price on vocals has just been released and is out now.

Hope you enjoy the above two tracks.

Cheers,

- David.

Back to the Future 1985

Did you know that Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty?

 source

Although first choice for the role, Michael J Fox was unable to
take the part due to filming commitments for Family Ties.

However, after five weeks of shooting, the filmmakers felt Stoltz
lacked the humour required for the part and decided he was miscast.

Fox was re approached, and a deal was made to work around his existing
timetable with Family Ties, allowing him to play the role of Marty.

Such a great film - one I can watch over and over again.
Can't imagine anyone other than Michael J Fox in the role.

Freaky Friday - Friday 13th

Friday the 13th is considered one of the unluckiest days on the calender.
Some folk actually suffer from an extreme fear of the date called Paraskevidekatriaphobia. (It's true - Google says so...)

2012 has no less than three Friday 13th's, all exactly 13 weeks apart.
Now that is abit weird, creepy & freaky.

But I hope it won't be all bad as it's my birthday today!
I stumbled across the above photo of the cool retro clock with
today's exact date on it, which I found abit freaky (but cool) too.

So, I thought I'd pay homage to Friday 13th here today at Freaky Friday,
with some of my fave funny/creepy photos from the always awesome site

This may have been the catalyst that tipped Jason
over the edge in the Friday 13th movies.

Poltergeist meets Bride of Chucky.

The Others.
(the lady on the left completely freaks me out!)

She just wants to hold him...

Happy Friday 13th!

Split Point Lighthouse & Stables

Split Point Lighthouse, Aireys Inlet, Victoria is a beautiful spot
& one of our favourite places to visit when we holiday in nearby Anglesea.

Many of the exterior scenes for the award winning children's TV Series
'Round the Twist' were filmed here.

Willows Tea House now resides in the old Lighthouse Stables, and is a great place to settle in with a coffee after exploring the walking tracks around the Lighthouse and down to the beach.
Willows has super friendly staff, a small gift shop and they serve THE best toasted banana bread EVER.

Incidentally, I was once left behind at the Split Point Lighthouse
'Home Alone' style when I was 4 years old.

My family and another family (4 adults, 7 children) had all piled into the Kombi for an afternoon outing to the Lighthouse.

Upon leaving, the parents did a quick 'headcheck headcount' of all the kids in the back of the Kombi, thought the numbers looked about right and took off.
I had been lagging behind and caught up just in time to see the Kombi taking off and turning the corner heading back to Anglesea!

Someone soon figured out they were a child short,
and they came back for me about two mins later.

Two minutes long enough for me to be COMPLETELY hysterical
having the meltdown of the century.

I still like to bring it up to my folks every now and then, just for kicks.

Oahu, North Shore 1972

I am crazy about the work by photographer Nick DeWolf from the 1970's.

These are a few of my favourites from the set titled 'Oahu 1972' on Flickr,
featuring North Shore surfers, spectators and photographers.
You can check out my other post featuring Nick DeWolf's photographs
of a skateboarding event in Aspen 77' here.
It's one of my all time favourite posts here at Hung Up On Retro.

Many thanks to Steve Lundeen and Maggie DeWolf for allowing me
to once again share Nick's brilliant work here.
