In honour of the London 2012 Summer Olympics closing,
here are some great Olympic posters from three past host cities -
Mexico 1968, Montréal 1976 & Moscow 1980.

Must say, watching the Olympic Marathon has me vaguely inspired.
It may be high time for me to factor some form of regular exercise into my life.
Inspired enough to Google 'Treadmill Hire' anyway.
It's a start. Rome wasn't built in a day.

What a cool look back at posters. They are all so typical of their time. Interesting, I think, that you can very often date something just by the graphics, without any text at all.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you Dana. I think of these particular posters the 76 ones are my favourites. Particularly the denim jeans one with the button badges.x
DeleteHey Donna, you know Andrews mum swam in the Mexico 68 Olympics and won a silver medal? She came to school last week and showed a few items she had from the games. She has some really cool pins that they used to swap amoungst the athletes. I love the black and white 68 poster. Very cool. She brought her bathers along. Wow, they were retro as! A skirt and everything!
ReplyDeleteHow cool! No I didn't know that!! That's fantastic. Kids at school would have loved that!x
DeleteThe Mexico posters are my favourite. Very cool. They are all much nicer (to me) than their more modern contemporaries. And Donna, you're right, Rome wasn't built in a day (one of my husband's most trotted out sayings re our reno's!)

I agree that the modern posters just seem so blah and uninteresting. The 68 posters have such great graphics.x
DeleteLove these posters, great online finds Donna!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the exercise the only workout my body is getting is my fingers making knots! Meet you halfway for a walk or a retro bike ride?
Hey, you're one! (or at the very least we could walk from our cars to the beach cafe for a coffee catch up!)x
DeleteDef! See how your traveling next Tuesday?
