'Love Vintage' Show 2012

A great day out was had today at the Love Vintage Show,
Royal Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne.

The show had over 50 vintage dealers and exhibitors, selling antique
& vintage clothing, jewellery and accessories, linens and collectables.

I loved this groovy retro lounge room display, styled by stalls -

The lounge room was set up between the three stalls,
and worked beautifully to inject some colour and vibe.

I could not take my eyes off the record player - AMAZING!!

Stacey's Retro Wares & Poppet Designs

Stacey's retro wares - sounds like a good name for a little shop doesn't it?
But no, this post is about my friend Stacey, and a few pics of the
fabulous retro wares she owns.

Stacey is also one clever lass, and creates gorgeous baby blankets,
bunting, noticeboards and paper garlands.

Please head on over to Stacey's new blog, Poppet Designs
to see some of her lovely work.

I have one of her gorgeous paper christmas garland's on order for
this years christmas tree - hooray!!

Awesome sideboard from Vinnies. I still remember getting Stacey's call that day - "I'm looking at two sideboards at Vinnies and can't decide which one to get - help!"
She left the building with both : )

Gorgeous blue glass jug and glasses from the man $10! (envy!!)

Wickedly cool ice bucket.

Stacey plans to fill this old jar with old vintage keys - very cute idea.

This is the other Vinnies sideboard - long and sleek. I love it.

45 records in an original holder.

Stacey has a few of these old soda streams now,
purchased from the man & the Vintage Shed.

Tin kitchen sign & rolling pin from the Vintage Shed, Tyabb

Thanks Stacey for allowing me to share some of your wares & photos here : )

Royal Melbourne Show

I remember mum taking me to the show when I was a kid.
I can still recall that horrid stench walking through the animal pavillions.
Long, dusty halls full of show cows, sheep, horses etc. I could not have been less interested. Those who know me know I'm not much of an animal person. Perhaps that's where it stems from!! Not even the baby animal nursery could bring me round.

The show bag hall was great though! (Long before you had to take out a small loan to fund your purchases for 1 or more children).
And so were some of the rides. Who could forget that urban myth about the carriage of the Mad Mouse shooting off the end of the track from high above into the crowd below?!

I am yet to take my own children to the show like my own lovely mother did (she is a far better and patient woman than me!).
I can barely keep track of my kids in a normal park let alone the show!
Bad mother? Fun sponge?
Yes, probably both.
But I don't care. We'll stick with the little local fetes and markets for the time being. Where I'm sure the fairy floss tastes just as sweet.

The big pie!!

Market finds

Sunny Sunday morning - perfect for a market stroll.
These are my purchases from Frankston market this morning.
Willow cake tin, and a brilliant retro (although somewhat enormous) biscuit tin.

Best get baking!

Vintage Clothing, Jewellery & Textiles Show

Expo Hall, Melbourne Showgrounds Ascot Vale
27-29th May 2011
presented by
Love Vintage

One of my best friends Jenny came across details for this Vintage show (nice one Jen!), and we checked it out this weekend.

The Vintage expo has been showing in Sydney for the last 5 years, but this was the first time in Melbourne, and it was fabulous!
Just under 50 exhibitors had all their glorious vintage treasures on show and for sale.

Everything from furniture, jewellery and fabrics, to buttons, perfumes, patterns and magazines. The standout for us though would have to have been the gorgeous vintage clothing. Gorgeous dresses, shoes, coats, scarves, ties and much more!

There were also several demonstrations on the main stage area over the course of the 3 days. We caught the morning session of the 'Lindy Charm School for Girls' demonstration of Vintage Makeup & Hairstyle Techniques.

So, a great day and really good value for $14 entry which includes all the demonstrations on the main stage (except the private lessons and makeovers).
We are already looking forward to next year!

Great idea in the Op Shop Guide Victoria Book (pictured above). Alphabetically lists Victorian Op Shops with easy reference guides to locate and shop for your own vintage treasures $24.95. www.opshopguidevictoria.com.au
