C-3PO, The Checkout Girl and Me

(That's me on the left - except I was wearing a STAR WARS T shirt...)

I recently wore this T Shirt out to the shops to grab a few things.
At the check out as I was paying, the young girl said to me "Oh, who's on your T Shirt?"
She leaned in for a closer look and said "Oh, The Wizard of Oz!"

I looked down at the front of my T Shirt to make sure I hadn't just crossed
over into an Alternate Universe and changed my T Shirt in the process.

"Errr, actually...it's STAR WARS." I replied incredulously.

This was greeted with a blank look. "But it has the Tin Man on it?!" she said.

The TIN MAN???!!

I shifted my feet while I gathered my thoughts to politely reply "No, that's C3-PO...
from the movie STAR WARS....".

There wasn't an ounce of recognition in her eyes.
I smiled, thanked her and swiftly gathered my bags to exit the store.

What I should have said is...

"I find your lack of faith disturbing.
That's C-3PO man! A protocol droid, fluent in six million forms of communication including the binary language of moisture vaporators and Bocce. He and his counterpart R2-D2 were involved in many missions and adventures with the Rebellion against the Evil Empire in one of the greatest movie franchises of ALL TIME!! You have much to learn young Padawan".

Then backed out of the store doing light saber sounds & moves with a rolled up newspaper.

The Tin Man???!!!

retrospect with Jason from ihatepeacocks.com

From left back: Darth Tom, The Roman, Operative X & Front: NosajMunson (Jason)

Abit of a step out of the realm with something different today!

When I had been blogging for about six months,
Hung Up On Retro got a shout out from a site called ihatepeacocks.com.
This was (still is) a massive deal for me. It was so great to know that someone (other than my mum) in the Internet universe had not only stopped by my blog, but thought it was OK enough to give
it a nod! Huge!

So who are ihatepeacocks.com?
ihatepeacocks.com are based in Colorado USA , run by Jason (Nosajmunson) and the crew
consisting of The Roman, Operative X, Agent OlmTreeHomeSted & Darth Tom.
(Hey man, if you can't have an alias online, where can you have one?)

The guys love Star Wars, all things Sci Fi and update their sites almost daily with Internet funnies, music clips, movie stuff and anything from the world wide web that they dig.
Something I also like about their site and Facebook page is in amongst the funnies, humour,
language etc. they'll post a pic or a story about something they are passionate about.
To quote part of their 'About' info on their Tumblr page -
"..we want to see the world become a better place for everyone"
and well, that spells good people to me.

So, I had an idea of asking Jason a few questions as part of a retro flashback -
or 'retrospect' if you will, to which Jason kindly agreed, so here we go!

Just a bunch of STAR WARS pics featuring all kinds of miscellaneous STAR WARS fun, and some stellar homemade STAR WARS costumes - and homemade costumes are the best!

X-Wing Fighter Beard. Creepy cool.

I love Jabba the Hutt in the garbage bag, and the R2D2 bin.

Happy Friday!

STAR WARS Week - Kurt Russell & William Katt Audition

This is an excerpt of Kurt Russell's audition as Han Solo and William Katt (The Greatest American Hero) as Luke Skywalker.
It's hard to imagine anyone other than Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in these iconic roles.
And although no one could ever compare to Harrison Ford, I think Kurt Russell does a good job in this and may have made quite a good Han Solo.
Thoughts?

This is an except from Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford auditioning together, reading the same lines as the previous clip.

STAR WARS Week - Rescuing Princess Leia

One of favourite scenes from 'A New Hope' 1977 where Luke, Han and Chewy head into the detention center to rescue Princess Leia.
I love Han's awkward intercom conversation with the Imperial Officer. "We're fine, we're all fine, here now thank you. How are you?"
The scene also two other great lines from the film - "Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" and of course "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you".

STAR WARS Week - Disco Album

Last year I devoted a whole week of blogposts to STAR WARS, and being the
complete (& proud) STAR WARS geek that I am, I'm doing it again!!
(In truth, a week would never be enough and a whole new blog devoted to STAR WARS
would be more worthy, but I will try and reign the geek in and keep it to a week.)

So, let's do it!
I'm kicking the first post off with some 70's disco flavour.

The original film STAR WARS: A New Hope was released in May 1977 amidst the disco era, so it was only fitting that a disco version of the soundtrack soon followed.

The disco album was titled 'STAR WARS and other Galactic Funk'. (Gold!)
The album's main single 'STAR WARS theme/Cantina Band' reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1977.
Here is an audio clip of the main single from the album.
Prepare to Feel Tha Funk - STAR WARS style.

STAR WARS 3D

 1977 Cinema Board found here

Woohoo! STAR WARS: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D
opens in Australian cinemas today.

Yeah, I know it's not the original trilogy, yadda yadda yadda,
but it's STAR WARS all the same and I am pumped!

Can't wait to see what the original trilogy looks like up on
the big screen in 3D, when we finally get to the original films.

Short behind the scenes clip from
The Phantom Menace with Ewan McGregor...

Chewbacca

Hey man, if a warm wookiee is your happy place, that's cool with me.

 fanboy

 Chicks dig Chewy.

(I am also willing to forgive the second 'E' missing at the end of Wookiee.)
Who am I, the STAR WARS spelling police?

Star Wars Week - Iron on Transfers

This was my first ever eBay purchase!
A 1977 STAR WARS Iron on Transfer book. It has 16 different fantastic designs.
I can still remember that little rush of glee when I won the item, and I have been hooked on eBay ever since.

I love that C-3PO and R2-D2 are listed as See Threepio and Artoo Detoo on these transfers. This is how they were originally named, and are listed as such on the end credits of STAR WARS Episode IV A New Hope in 1977, with the abbreviated names in brackets.
Each consecutive movie (including the prequels) dropped the full name and simply used C-3PO and R2-D2.
Little bit of STAR WARS trivia on this sunny Sunday!

Star Wars Week - Vadar's moves

I'm afraid it doesn't get more awesome than this.
STAR WARS weekend at Disney Hollywood Studios
'Dancing with the STAR WARS Stars'.
Darth Vadar and Stormtroopers dancing to 'Beat It' by Michael Jackson.

Stormtrooper back up dancer - I believe this may be my dream job.

Star Wars 1977

I am a huge STAR WARS fan.
I feel one post couldn't possibly be enough, so I have decided to unleash the STAR WARS geek within, and dedicate this week to the original STAR WARS Trilogy.

I have always loved the scene in Episode IV A New Hope,
where Luke looks wistfully out toward the twin suns of Tatooine

Brilliant cinematography, and beautiful score by John Williams.
Love it.
