eeny meeny retro cafe

There is a new Retro Cafe in Frankston - eeny meeny!
Pippa (Ouchflower) and I were pumped to hear of it's recent opening,
so we mosied on down this week to check it out!

eeny meeny cafe is situated in the heart of Frankston at 96 Young Street.
The cafe is decorated with retro & vintage furniture and wares, and owners
Robbie and Sandra have created a really cool, relaxed space.

There is also a fantastic covered courtyard out the back - perfect for functions.

Along with a great menu, the cafe serves organic, fairtrade & rainforest alliance coffee,
organic leaf teas and home made baked treats and cakes including one of my
old school favourites - Chocolate Crackles!
(Also loved the counter top record player spinning some great tunes - very cool).

Great food, great service and lovely staff.

We'll definitely be back!!!

Ouchflower Macrame Owl

Here is my new Macrame Owl beautifully hand crafted by Pippa of Ouchflower!

Pippa creates gorgeous modern macrame, and I have been wanting to own one of her pieces for ages. I finally decided on a Turquoise Wall Owl, and I think he adds a great splash of colour to the wall space above my desk.

In addition to her fabulous blog, Pippa has recently launched Ouchflower's online store, where you can purchase her gorgeous Macrame Hanging Gardens, Owls and Embroidered Wall Hangings.

Pippa is not only incredibly talented, she is also one of the nicest chicks on the blogging block.
Please head on over and check out her fabulous work!

Woolloongabba Antique Center, Brisbane

This weekend found me in Brisbane experiencing all the
retro and vintage goodness that Brisbane had to offer.
And it was amazing!

Linda (my sister in law, fellow retro fan & trusty tour guide),
showed me the sights and a tonne of great retro and vintage stores
 - large and small.

One of the standouts though would have to have been the
22 Wellington Road (Cnr Nile Street)
Woolloongabba

Run by sisters Sarah Jane Walsh and Megan Rizzo,
the centre houses over 60 antique dealers and has a
fantastic fifties style cafe and gift shop.

The last Sunday of every month you will also find the
'Bare Bones Pop Up Barber Shop' on site. Such a great idea!

There is also a small silent theatre toward the back which runs 1920's silent films everyday. The original cinema seating is from the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba.

The Woolloongabba Antique Centre offers more than just retro and vintage shopping, and I think this is what sets it apart from many other large Antique Centres. I highly recommend a visit if you happen by these parts!

Please head to the website Woolloongabba Antique Centre for tonnes more photos, info on the sisters, the dealers, upcoming events and the Centre itself.

PS. I have often wondered why more of the larger Antique Centres (in relatively isolated or industrial areas) in Melbourne don't have cafes. I think it's smart to offer customers a place to grab a cuppa, refuel, and ponder some of the items they have seen and are perhaps considering purchasing. I know I have left centres to grab lunch or a drink as it wasn't offered on site, only to decide I do in fact want an item, but due to time or distance, generally don't head back for it.

Just a thought.
Hooroo!

Split Point Lighthouse & Stables

Split Point Lighthouse, Aireys Inlet, Victoria is a beautiful spot
& one of our favourite places to visit when we holiday in nearby Anglesea.

Many of the exterior scenes for the award winning children's TV Series
'Round the Twist' were filmed here.

Willows Tea House now resides in the old Lighthouse Stables, and is a great place to settle in with a coffee after exploring the walking tracks around the Lighthouse and down to the beach.
Willows has super friendly staff, a small gift shop and they serve THE best toasted banana bread EVER.

Incidentally, I was once left behind at the Split Point Lighthouse
'Home Alone' style when I was 4 years old.

My family and another family (4 adults, 7 children) had all piled into the Kombi for an afternoon outing to the Lighthouse.

Upon leaving, the parents did a quick 'headcheck headcount' of all the kids in the back of the Kombi, thought the numbers looked about right and took off.
I had been lagging behind and caught up just in time to see the Kombi taking off and turning the corner heading back to Anglesea!

Someone soon figured out they were a child short,
and they came back for me about two mins later.

Two minutes long enough for me to be COMPLETELY hysterical
having the meltdown of the century.

I still like to bring it up to my folks every now and then, just for kicks.

Waverley Antique Bazaar

Had a great day of thrifting over the weekend with fellow Blogger
and new friend Pippa of 'Ouchflower'!

Turns out we both shopped at the our local retro/vintage store
aka The Man regularly, but had never met or crossed paths.
Then Michael (The Man) put us onto each others blogs, and I
became a regular visitor to OuchFlower.

And after bumping into eachother one day at The Man,
Pippa and I decided to book a date and head out for some thrifting together!

Our chosen stop on our first trip was the
Waverley Antique Bazaar
11a Aristoc Road, Glen Waverley
Open 7 days a week 10am - 5pm.

pic found here

The Bazaar is located in a huge warehouse full of fantastic retro and
vintage goods - for the most part priced really, really well.
The Bazaar opened in October 2011 and now houses over 130 stalls.

It was a blistering hot day but we put in a good 2 hours
of seeking out treasures in the warehouse.

True to form, I purchased a few floral themed pieces.

So today I am linking in with Pippa from Ouchflower.
Please follow the link & pop over to see the wares she picked up on our thrifting expedition, and check out the rest of her lovely blog while you are there!

Here are a few pics of my purchases from the trip...

Luckily there were 2 of these gorgeous plates, so we bought one each.
Floral mugs which I am now planning to hang on hooks from a
shelf above the kettle.

Floral tin and wall hanging just coz.

Marquise shaped Tigers Eye ring. My favourite purchase of the day.
At least, I think it's Tigers Eye. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
(Are you feeling the garden stone? I couldn't get the ring to sit
well on the bench so I needed a prop.)

And this awesome chemistry flask/come vase was a gift to me from Pippa!
Nabbed some greenery from the garden for this shot.
Hope I did it justice Pippa : )

Highly recommend a trip to the Waverley Antique Bazaar if you are in Melbourne. And I also recommend a date with Pippa.
She bought me lunch - hoorah!!
Thanks for a great day Pippa. Next lunch is on me : )

Le Sausage

Le Sausage is bringing the tastiest gourmet sausages
to the good people of Melbourne, in the funkiest red food truck around!

The truck itself was originally owned by the NSW fire brigade,
who had maintained it beautifully all it's life. It already had a kitchen inside,
and was used by the fire brigade as a food truck -
taken to fires to feed the firemen and women on site.

Given that the truck was already in such good condition when purchased,
Le Sausage only had to make a few restorations to update the kitchen.

The fabulous Retro Pin Up artwork was created for Le Sausage
by a close friend of the owners - she is a looker!

Le Sausage is available for functions, events, and parties etc.

For more information you can check out Le Sausage website here
or head over to their Facebook page here for schedules and info.

Y.U.M.!

Anglesea Paddle Boats

Happy 2012!

Still rather in holiday mode over here, so it's only fitting that my first post for 2012 is related to my recent holiday.

One of my favourite places in the entire world is the seaside town of Anglesea,
at the beginning of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

Driving through the town, you cross a bridge over the Anglesea River.
And as you cross the bridge, to the left, there is a a tourist attraction that has been there for as long as I can remember - Anglesea Paddle Boat and Canoe Hire.

Adrian Booth is the owner of business, and has been delivering fun on the Anglesea river to tourists and locals alike since 1978.

They also cater for canoe hire to school and community groups.
Please click on the link www.angleseapaddleandcanoe.com for further information.

Adrian still owns the 14 or so original wooden paddle boats that were once used on the river, but are now securely stored. Would be so great to see them back out on the river one day!

Here are a few shots of the Anglesea Paddle and Canoe hire, and surrounds of the beautiful Anglesea River.

Enjoy!

 Adrian the Canoe Hire man!
(Love the Jeep and Caravan too!)
