Retro Garden Gates

I love old wrought iron retro garden gates, railings and fences that can be found on homes in some of the older suburbs of Australian cities.
Thankfully, Darren of Frontdrive34 on Flickr does too, and has agreed to let me share some of his photographs of retro garden gates and fences.
(In fact, his exact reply comment upon me asking for permission to share his photographs was
"Hi, Go for it. I love that someone else can get off on gates!" - Gold. Made me laugh out loud.)
Thanks to Darren for allowing me to share his photographs here.

  1. Those are really beautiful gates, and his photography is wonderful. We really don't have gates like that in the southern U.S., but those designs are reminiscent of the decoration on door screens when I was a kid.

My daughter and I share a passion for doors. She started as a photography major in college, and she did a series of door photos that is amazing.

    1. Hi Dana! Yes, I love old wrought iron screen doors too. It seems quite a few people are using the iron screen door frames in their gardens as features for climber plants etc. which I think is a great idea to bring character to a garden. Your daughters photography work on doors sounds great!x

  2. I love Darren's gate photos, thanks for sharing them here Donna.
I'm always noticing little details like gates and peoples mail boxes when I'm out and about, usually walking the dog. I often think about taking photos but never do. I need to start bringing my camera with me.

p.s. opened a tin of pineapple yet?

    1. Hi Kylie! I too often see gates, old school painted garage doors with detail etc that I like, but never have my camera with me either.
      Thankfully Darren's on the ball!
PS No pineapple opening as yet. I'd best get on that : )

  3. Well thank goodness it's not just me who gets excited about gates!! Maybe we need a club of sorts? But seriously, they are to a front entrance what eyes are to the soul, I reckon. And they are a great spot for a bit of quirkiness too. How wonderful both the actual photography is, but also the charming gates themselves with the sumptuous curves.
