First when there's nothing, But a slow glowing dream,
That your fear seems to hide, Deep inside your mind,
All alone I have cried, Silent tears full of pride,
In a world made of steel, Made of stone....
(cue back beat)
Well I hear the music,
Close my eyes, feel the rhythm
Wrap around take a hold, of my heart
What a feeling!
Being's Believing,
I can have it all now I'm dancing for my life
Take your passion, and make it happen,
Pictures come alive you can dance right through your life
What a feeling!

For some reason, these are some of the most painfully awkward of the Awkward Family Photos to me. Some people simply shouldn't be encouraged to take dance lessons...or wear costumes like that.
ReplyDeleteI say that...but I remember a navy blue satin and hot pink net costume I had for a dance recital in the mid-50s when I was about 7. It had what was supposed to be a silver sequin starburst design on the stomach, but it looked more like a really bizarre spider. I think it's a safe bet that I looked like one of the kids in your post...haha
Yes. I had a tutu once too. Those are very awkward pix for sure.
DeleteEven now, once in awhile, I dig out my twenty-five year old silver headband and wear it around my forehead...
DeleteAhhh Dana, I enjoy reading your comments on the Freaky Friday posts as much as enjoy creating the post itself. I would pay good money to see you in the above mentioned outfit with the 'starburst' design.x
DeleteRebecca - Yes, I remember doing a tortured dance 'piece' in high school for grading in a foul black leotard get up. I cringe at the thought of it these days. Thankfully no photographic proof.x
Jen - Break out the silver headband next time I'm round.x
I didn't know the words were 'being's believing'.... for years I have been singing 'beer's believing'...
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Good thing we are related and I can continue to give you beef about that for many years to come.x
DeleteThrough the power of drinking I made it through this post! Those costume are hilarious! I loved the song so much when I was younger :)
ReplyDeleteI love the ad so much!!! The moves are identical to the original filmclip (well, what the dude could manage!) I especially like the end shot with the quote about the Power of Dance - Right on.x
DeleteWhy are dancing costumes always so ugly?
ReplyDeleteAnd they haven't got much better since these pics were taken either. I know, because both of my girls danced (I have stiched many a sequin) and their costumes were not much better than these (well maybe a little bit...)
My faves are the 'What a Feeling!' girls. Do you reckon they're mother and daughter?
I think your fave pic is absolutely mother and daughter - bonding, all due to the Power of Dance.x
DeleteThat was my mom and I in 1982. I can't believe how much that pic has circulated on the internet. We have a couple of other pix like that, too. I should submit those to Awkward family photos, too. I would love to re-create that photo with my own daughter. I'd have to have the costumes re-made since they are long gone now.
