I have a real thing for Retro Kitchen Cannisters and tins at the moment. Colourful, useful tins of character brightening up kitchen benches & shelves. I have MANY cups of coffee and tea throughout the day. It's like a little holiday within my day, stopping for that 5mins or so with a few biccies!! (sad yes, but true). So, with how many times a day I frequent these tins in mind, I think it's time to be abit more creative with my current cannister situation. Time to get some new (but old!) ones to inject some fun and colour onto my kitchen bench.
I have found many a glorious cannister thus far whilst searching for inspiration, and even added a few in that my wonderful friends possess. From the cool & colourful to the weird and wonderful... Enjoy!
My friend Emma's cannisters. And how awesome are those vintage scales?!
My friend Terri's bright and cheery cannisters. Obtained in a straight swap between stallholders at a market - the cannisters for a skateboard! Score!! PLUS she has these too cute spice cannisters as well! (pic below)
My first musical experience with Journey took place many moons ago while holidaying in the beach side town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Some fellow travellers from Ohio that my beautiful friend Amy and I met, and who we spent alot of our time there with, were obsessed with Journey and had every album the band had released on cassette tape. Being an American gal, Amy already knew of Journey, but up until then I knew very little about the band. I was only familiar with the single 'Open Arms', and 'Oh Sherry' from Steve Perry's solo album which I had heard on Australian Radio.
The guys decided a few days later when Amy & I left Myrtle Beach, that I could not return home to Australia without Journey in my music collection, and they gave me Journey's Greatest Hits tape as a parting gift.
It wore out my walk man for the rest of my U.S. stay and the trip home. And I still have it, (though now on CD!) in the car today.
The album includes hits Only the Young, Don't Stop Believin', Faithfully, Anyway You Want It, Open Arms and many more...
Thanks to Ryan Murphy and Glee, a whole new generation is getting to experience some of Journey's awesome music.
Here is Journey Live-Don't Stop Believin' Houston 1981. Brilliant.
Yes, I wondered the same thing....exactly what is this?
Some kind of oxygen tank bed? Sleeping quarters for the Space Shuttle?
The article suggests that this bed meets the requirements of our future needs. (?!)
Needing more space in the bedroom, this little number compacts it all into this one set up: Bed head, drawers, lights, radio and air conditioning for when you choose to lower the electric soft top to sleep in perfect comfort.
Hmmm, can see why this one never took off past the prototype stage.
Jacob Quinn is the photographer of the awesome shot in my blog title header. Here are some more of my favourites by Jacob from his set titled 'LA/Santa Monica' - including the original of the Roller Girl.Enjoy!
