Freaky Friday - Festive Fare

Wondering what to serve those friends and family who pop in over the festive season?
If you like Jelly and Olives, you're in luck here.
Better yet, you can premake them for unexpected visitors!

I picked a few of my favourites from the images of Bad and Ugly of Retro Food.
Recently found them on Facebook. Absolute gold if you get a chance to check them out.

Meatloaf surprise. Like gelatin is going to improve Meatloaf...

I don't know about you, but this is pretty darn far from my idea of the perfect salad!!

This looks like something you'd find in a jar at a medical school science lab.
What is in there? Prawns? Tongues?

Sweet Jesus. There's so much going on in this one I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Hmm, not sure what's hiding out in this tasty treat. We'll call it Eel Surprise.

 Grey jelly? GREY??? How? Why?
Gag.

Looks relatively harmless. No eel or tongue dwelling within.
Or is there?!

"Bob! Will I throw some peas in too?"
"Yes darling, throw it all in. Any unopened can we have in the pantry. Open it up and put it in!"

Happy Friday!!

    1. Hi Vicky! Nasty business right there. Been pondering hoe you would cut one of these puppies up to serve? Slices? Or just whack a dollop on the plate?? Have a good one! Xx : )

  2. Love these retro food moments Donna...that food is all just way too shiny! Gelatin, meatloaf, hard boiled eggs...how times have changed. It is a long way from Donna Hay and her understated styling isn't it? Have a great weekend x

    1. Hi Jane! So true. Donna Hay would have a pink fit if we served her up one of these horrors. The grey seafood lobster tail one has given me nightmares all week. Revolting.

  3. I can't begin to calculate how many of these monstrosities my maternal grandmother made for holiday meals. Some of these look disgustingly familiar. She must have clipped the recipes out of every woman's magazine she was subscribed to. I still have to go back and look at photos of the Swedish Salad Mold I entered in our infamous food contest every once in a while, just for old time's sake. :)

    1. Hi Dana! Can't imagine eating one of these hideous things. Your swedish salad mould was truly something to behold (a little rhyme to boot!). It was a horror movie. Hands down one of my favourite gag worthy dishes in that contest!! : ) xx

  4. Bringing one of these delights along to our xmas get together? It seems like anything goes here, throw in anything you've got with some gelatin into a 1970's mould and bingo....you're on a winner. I seriously don't think I could taste test any of those without gagging. Its just not right.
